Manila court throws out move to restrict billboard size

A court in Manila has thrown out a move to restrict the size of billboards in the Philippine capital.
The local government attempted to limit billboard size by introducing new laws in September, but a local court has quashed the move.
The Makati Regional Trial Court ordered the Metro Manila Development Authority to hold off the restrictions, issuing an injunction preventing the government agency from “universally implementing and enforcing…issuances regarding billboards”.
The order further prevents the MMDA from “confiscating, rolling down and/or demolishing or otherwise dismantling the billboards of Petitioners and all other entities similarly engaged in the business of outdoor media advertising on the basis of non-compliance”.
The injunction was issued in response to a petition by members of industry association Outdoor Media Advocacy Group, which argued that MMDA’s issuances were inconsistent with existing laws that govern the industry.
The restrictions would have meant that billboards would have been limited to 216 square meters.
